Powerflushing in Canterbury, Dover & Folkestone

There's plenty of reason to consider power flushing for your radiators and central heating system in Canterbury, Dover & Folkestone. However, before we get into the benefits of power flushing, let us define power flushing.

What exactly is a power flush and how does it work?

A power flush is a quick and easy way to keep your central heating system in good shape and running as efficiently as it did when it was first installed. Debris, rust, black water, and other contaminants accumulate inside your system's pipes over time, making it work harder than it needs to.

That's why a power flush injects a high-velocity jet of water (with cleaning chemicals) into your central heating system, allowing it to flush out the debris. A power flush can help your central heating perform efficiently for years, so contact us immediately to book your power flush in Canterbury, Dover, or Folkestone!

Signs your central heating system needs a Power Flush!

Here are a few signs that you should get your central heating system power cleaned by a professional:

Your boiler is making strange noises (banging, gurgling, kettling)

Your boiler turns off before heating your water or your home.

Cold spots persist even after bleeding your radiator (a sign that build up is stopping the circulation)

It is possible to magnetise copper pipes (a sign that rust has built up internally)

Common Powerflush Questions:

How often should I get a power flush?

VFR Plumbing, Heating & Gas recommends that you have a power flush every 5-10 years to keep your heating system happy and healthy. So, if you've never had a power flush before, get in touch with one of our heating engineers using the details below who will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take if you're unsure when the last time a system was cleaned.

Even if I've just installed a new boiler, do I still need a power flush?

Yes, power flushing your system is strongly suggested if you have recently installed a new boiler. If your radiators are clogged with sludge and limescale, new boilers may not be able to perform as well as they could. So you can get the most out of your new boiler, our power flushing service will remove all of the old sludge/limescale from the existing radiators and pipework. Use the information below to contact our Dover-based gas and heating engineers today.

Do I need to power flush if I replace my radiators?

Yes, because you're installing new radiators on top of sludged-up pipes, it'll still be advantageous. After the new radiators are placed, we'll flush out your system and balance all of your radiators to help you get the most efficiency out of the system.

Who should perform a Powerflush?

Any work on your central heating system should always be performed by a professional. Qualified heating & gas engineers will always have their Gas Safe ID on them; if you have any questions, you can ask to view it.

While there are no requirements to be Gas Safe registered in order to execute a system Powerflush, you must be competent and capable of doing so. A mistake could cause your heating system to operate worse than before, and employing the specialised chemicals carries hazards. As a result, we always recommend obtaining professional assistance.

Is power flushing always the solution to central-heating problems?

No. Power flushing will not fix a broken part in your boiler or elsewhere in your central heating system. Power flushing can improve your system's efficiency and keep it running smoothly, but it cannot repair valves that have broken due to sludge in the system, for example.

Power flushing is not a solution to pressure loss. That usually indicates a leak in the system – again, this could be due to inefficient operation, but power flushing will not solve the problem on its own.

Power flushing is most effective when performed on a regular basis beginning with the installation of a new system. If you have an older boiler and system (at least 15 years old), power flushing may not be an option for you.

In this case, replacing the boiler, radiators, and possibly some of the pipework would be more cost-effective than attempting to improve a failing system. Because power flushing rapidly circulates water throughout your central heating system, it can increase pressure on any weak points, such as rusting radiators. Leaks can occur if there are any underlying weaknesses.

Our gas engineers should be able to determine if power flushing is the best option for your system. If there is an underlying problem, our heating engineers will need to thoroughly inspect the system to locate and repair it. For more information, see our article on servicing checks and common problems in gas-combi boilers.

Why Should You Hire VFR Plumbing, Heating & Gas?

We use thermal imaging camera equipment to help us identify cold spots in radiators when you book a service with us. This allows us to determine whether or not blockages are preventing a radiator from producing heat evenly and whether or not the central heating system requires a power flush.

You'll also be pleased to know that all of our heating engineers are Gas Safe registered; simply ask us to show you our Gas Safe ID, and we'll be happy to do so. For more information about us or our services, please contact us using the information provided below.
